Wow what a week!! I could not have asked for a better tournament to have my Big Break sponsor invite as well as my LPGA rookie debut. I loved every minute of my week in Waterloo. Fortunately, Travis was able to caddie for me and experience the LPGA all week with me. We had wonderful housing (thank you Jim and Lynn). Jim was even able to be my walking stand bearer for 2 days. I was quite busy to start the week with a press conference, interview with Tom Abbott, proam party, proam, and practicing to get my game ready. I didn’t feel as nervous on the course as I thought I would, but I definitely felt pressure being the sponsor invite and proving to everyone and myself that I belong out there. The first round had very windy conditions and I managed to shoot 1 under 70. I was happy with my start, as I had no idea what to expect.
The second round was a little more rocky as I made a double on my 8th hole. Other than that, I played steady and shot 2 over 73. I thought I missed the cut when I walked off my last hole. My Mom, Aunt, and cousin came to watch so the Manulife sponsors invited all of us up to their suite on the 18th green. I soon found out that the cut line had moved to 1 over. I had to sweat it out for an hour and the guys in the Manulife suite helped me celebrate once I knew I made the cut!! Everyone was so nice and supportive up there, so of course I had to go up every day after that. I couldn’t thank Manulife and their staff enough for this amazing opportunity. I even got to take a picture with President Marianne Harrison! On Saturday, I really had it going and had a quadruple on my 13th hole. Yes, I hit it 8 times. One bad swing and I kept making mistake after mistake. I managed to shoot even par, which with a quad, is pretty good! The last round, I shot 1 under in rainy conditions. I birdied my last hole, which was fun to end my first LPGA event on a great note and finish even for the week. I learned a lot about my game and how good the players are on tour. I realize that not many mistakes are made out there. Without my two big numbers, I would have been 6 under. Easy to say now of course. It was an incredible week and I was so glad that Travis was there by my side the whole time. This gives us major motivation to finish the year on a strong note and get my card. I can’t wait to play on the LPGA full time!
Thank you again to Big Break, Golf Channel, and Manulife for a wonderful opportunity. Also, thanks to all of the volunteers and fans who came out to support the event. We couldn’t do it without you and I felt the love and support from all of the cheers. Canada loves their golf and Big Break and all of the support did not go unnoticed.
