The 2014 Symetra tour season is started! It seemed like a short off season but that could because I was busy with filming the Big Break, q-school, and trying to Monday qualify for the first LPGA event in January. I had a few off weeks in December to enjoy the holidays with family but then I was quickly back to practice! I just finished my first event in Mesa, Arizona where I had a busy week! It started with leaving my home at 4am last Monday to flying to L.A. to rent a car then to drive to Phoenix. I finally arrived at my host Grandma’s house at 11pm ET.
It was such a long day of travel and I’m pretty sure that is what caused me to get a cold! I flew to LA because the Symetra Tour has an event there next week so it was much cheaper to rent a car out of LA and fly there. During the practice round, I had a fun surprise.
On Tuesday, I visited Ping to get fitted for a new putter and check all of my other new clubs’ lies and lofts. I recently updated my bag with all new Ping equipment from last years models to this years models. I’m loving them so far! It was really neat to see how the clubs are made and to see the putter vault. I got to see Bubba’s famous wedge, Tiger’s old Ping putter, Kenny Perry’s Ping putter that he got from a member in my hometown, and many more!
I’ve added a new goal to my golf career: win an LPGA event with a Ping putter to get it in the vault and get my very own gold putter! I had a great time and can’t wait to get my new putter in a few weeks!
On Wednesday, I played in the Pro-Am with the Symetra Tour’s CBO and had a great time! That night, I attended a Big Break Florida preview party at the Omni in Scottsdale. There were 5 other girls there that were on the show with me. We got to see the first episode and could not stop laughing! We all loved the first show and can’t wait for everyone else to see it!
For the Symetra event, I shot 71-71-74 that included my first eagle of the season, a chip in (35 yds) birdie, two doubles, and several one putt saves. In fact I never had more than 29 putts a round, however I missed a lot of greens. I was really rusty with some tee shots and approaches and had to rely a lot on my short game. I recently learned AimPoint which is a method to read greens and loved my results using it this week. The positives I can take is that I didn’t miss the fairways or greens by a lot so maybe just need to concentrate on my aim next week. Thanks to my caddie, Paul for being so supportive and keeping me hydrated and calm. It’s great to have a local caddie that knows the course and can be a helping hand throughout the week. Also thanks to my wonderful host, Jo. I stayed with her last year and it is always comforting to return to a host family where you feel comfortable and welcome.
Don’t forget to watch Big Break Florida Mondays at 9 ET
