It was great to be back in Florida playing in tournament golf. Lake Wales is less than an hour and a half away from my hometown and 45 minutes from Lakeland, where I went to college. On Tuesday, I made a trip to Lakeland to the First Tee program, where I spent many hours in college working on my game. I helped out with a junior clinic and had a great time interacting with all of the kids. Afterwards I hung out with some college friends and it was great to catch up. I stayed in housing with my college teammates’ Dad and stepmom and it was beautiful! They lived on a lake and the sunsets were breathtaking! It was nice to sit out back with Travis before and after my rounds and relax. During the weekend of the tournament, the wind really picked up and the pin positions were tricky. There were lots of slope on putts and it was so important to be patient. I started my tournament with a 2 under par, 70 that included 5 birdies and a double. Overall I was happy with my round regardless of having a few mental mistakes. The scores were not as low as I thought they would be so it put me in good position. Saturday was college pride day and it was fun to represent Florida Southern and even my Assistant Coach came out to support me.
I shot another 70 but it was a frustrating day with a lot of missed opportunities. It was one of those days where I could have gone really low as I started out birdie, birdie. Then I think I was trying to make birdies rather than letting birdies come. I found myself only one back going into Sunday. I enjoyed a nice, fun meal with my parents, Travis, and brother Justin. On Sunday, I had lots of support including my little sorority sister , Kristen and her parents.
I am so grateful for a supportive family who comes and watches me multiple times throughout my season! I had a pretty shaky start to my final round. To be honest, it had been since last July that I was in contention to win so I had to get comfortable with those nervous feelings that came to me. I turned the front at 1 over for the day, 2 shots back and stood on 10 saying this is a new 9. I proceeded to birdie 10 and 11 and get right back into it. The last 5 hole stretch is really tough as most of them were into a strong wind and made the holes long. Going into the last hole I knew I was playing for 2nd as the leader was 4 strokes ahead. I hit a terrible approach into a bunker and made a miraculous save. Bunker game is not my forte but I was so proud of myself for hitting a tough shot really close and then making an important putt. I finished the week at 5 under and tied for 2nd. I was very pleased with my week and so glad Travis was there to caddie. I really feel I play my best with him on the bag and I’m excited he will be with me again this week. Thank you to all of my family and friends who came out to watch! Hope you caught the 5th episode of Big Break Florida this past Monday! It was another close one but I’m safe and on to next week! I can’t believe how fast the show is going by but it is fun to watch! Hope you are enjoying it and thanks for all of the support for the show and on tour!
