Hello followers! I’m back for another year on tour. I learned a lot on the LPGA last year and am more motivated than ever to get back out there! I’ll be focusing on playing a full year on the Symetra Tour. This past off season I taught a little bit with my husband, Travis at Meadowood Golf and Tennis Club. He is the Director of Instruction there and we had a great time co-teaching Junior Clinics and our first Women’s Golf Bootcamp. I really enjoyed it and may see myself doing a little more teaching in the future. Travis will be able to travel with me for most of the events this year. We have had 3 events so far in Baumont, California, Lake Wales, Florida, and Fort Myers, Florida.
California: Travis and I flew early to visit one of his childhood friends in LA. We had a great few days staying in Beverly Hills and sight seeing a little. I hadn’t played in a tournament since Q-School so I wasn’t sure what to fully expect with my game in a competitive atmosphere. Overall, I was pleased with my game after dusting some off-season rust off. I finished tied for 23rd at 1 under.
Lake Wales: I always enjoy playing in this event because it is close to my hometown and close to my college. I was able to visit Lakeland to see a few friends and help out with a Junior Clinic at the First Tee of Lakeland. We stayed with one of my college teammate’s parents and had a great time with them! I was also able to play with my college coach in the Pro-Am and we finished 3rd. I had lower back pain starting on Tuesday of the tournament week and by Friday, I was having a hard time getting through the ball without pain. I shot 77 and there was nothing great about it. I went to our awesome trainer, Cliff on tour and he did a little dry needling and massage so that I could function the next day. I bounced back with a 70 to make the cut and move up. A final round of 73 left me in 28th place. I’ll take it after being in 95 place after the first round! Fort Myers: Cypress Lakes is one of the best courses we play all year on the Symetra Tour. The greens are fast, fairways are pure and the practice facilities are pristine. Not to mention this event was partnered with the Legends Tour which is the Senior Tour for former LPGA players. Some names like Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley, and JoAnn Carner are just a few. I struck the ball well all week but really struggled with my putting.
My back finally felt better by Friday. It was super windy over the weekend and on Sunday I moved up 11 spots shooting over par. I finished tied for 21st. I seem to be stuck in the 20s this year so hoping I can break through soon with a solid finish. I had the pleasure of playing with the legends Helen Alfredson and Nancy Scranton. It was great to chat with them and get some great advice on when I return to the LPGA. It was also awesome to see them hold their on hitting awesome shots and make birdies. I thoroughly enjoyed this tournament!
I was still nursing my back pain so I hardly practiced leading up to the first round. I knew rest was more important than making my back worse. Unfortunately, I could definitely tell in my putting that I didn’t have enough practice on the greens. I got to 2 to 3 under on my rounds almost every day early on and the best round I had was 1 under. I had way too many 3 putts and had rounds of 71-72-75-73. Needless to say, not too bad considering my putting stats.
