Last week we had a first year event in Fort Myers and they did an awesome job! The course was in incredible shape, the volunteers and fans were awesome, and the sponsors did a great job with putting on this new event. I played in the pro-am on Wednesday with 3 guys from a local new station. We had a blast and they filmed throughout the whole day. It felt like I was back on Big Break! They did a special later that night about their day with me. They couldn’t have been any nicer and I had such a great time!
My husband, Travis came over to caddie and celebrate our one year anniversary. We went to a nice restaurant on the beach, Thursday night and had one of the best meals we have ever had. It was delicious and a great way to start out our weekend. The weather was very windy on Friday, but I am used to playing in strong winds and managed to shoot 68 and hold the first day lead. It was sometimes 2 to 3 club wind but I stayed calm and patient and really hit the ball solid.
On Saturday, I started my round at 9:50 and didn’t walk off the course until 4:45. We had two rain delays and it was really hard to gain momentum. I was hitting the ball well but couldn’t make very many putts. I finished with 2 silly bogeys and shot 73. On Sunday, the wind switched in the opposite direction and I had to change my game plan on a few holes. It really threw me off and I had a double on my third hole. To understand how hard the wind was blowing, on Friday and Saturday I had a pitching wedge into the 9th hole and on Sunday I hit a 4 hybrid!! So the entire course played so different but I held myself together to shoot 74 and finished tied for 5th. I made another good paycheck and was happy that Travis could be there to caddie on our first anniversary. We drove home that night to eat our top tier from our cake and repack. The next day I drove 9 hours to my next event. I am fortunate to have such a great husband who is so supportive for my career.
